owan Atkinson is a funny man. In fact, he's easily the funniest British comedian outside of the Pythons. He was in the British series Black Adder and American films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and the recent Rat Race, but his most popular character is probably Mr. Bean.
The character gained popularity in the US mostly due to HBO running the series a couple years ago. Then the quirky guy hit the big screen in a movie that was funny, but recycled some of the best bits from the series. Now AandE has collected all fourteen episodes of the series on a three-disc set.
There are some side-splittingly funny shows in this set.
The deal with Mr. Bean is that he's a pretty quiet guy that looks at the world in a slightly innocent and offbeat way. He's almost like a child, yet rather intelligent and can be pretty "evil" at times (just wait until you see what he does to a blind man in one of the new sketches). Each episode is simply Mr. Bean reacting to relatively normal situations, such as a test or stuffing a turkey, and the result is some true hilarity.
This three-disc set includes some absolute classics. Disc one includes "The Curse of Mr. Bean" that features Bean's trip to a public swimming pool and his fear of the high dive. And wait until you see how he makes a sandwich "on the go". Disc two features one of the funniest Bean episodes ever; the Christmas one.
You'll see how Bean spends Christmas. This means sending cards to himself, watching carolers from the comfort of his couch, and getting a giant Turkey stuck on his head.
One of the funnier bits in the series, which was copied in the movie, is the one where Bean is trying to entertain a sick kid on a plane. When Bean isn't looking, the kid pukes into a barf bag and then offers it to Bean. The results are sick, yet funny. Here's what the sequence looks like: Mr. Bean is a very, very, funny series and you get the whole thing on this three-disc set. If you've only seen the Bean movie, then you haven't really seen how funny this character can be.
